Cardinal's Hat 'Green Spire'
The spindle tree 'Green Spire' is known in Latin as Euonymus japonicus 'Green Spire'. As you can see from the name, this plant is of Asian origin. This species is found primarily in Japan and Korea. However, in recent years, 'Green Spire' has also been appearing more and more frequently in European gardens. And there are good reasons for that.
In recent years, the Netherlands has been plagued by boxwood caterpillars. As a result, many boxwood hedges have been eaten by the caterpillars. Euonymus 'Green Spire' is an excellent alternative to boxwood. Just like boxwood, the spindle tree ‘Green Spire’ is a slow-growing plant. The plants also have a similar appearance. The major advantage of the spindle tree ‘Green Spire’ is that this variety is not susceptible to the caterpillar.
