Western Tree of Life ‘Smaragd’
The Western arborvitae ‘Smaragd’ is also known by its Latin name, Thuja occidentalis ‘Smaragd’. This plant owes its name “Smaragd” to the emerald-green color of the scales characteristic of this species.
This hedge plant is particularly popular in Germany. This is due to the plant’s unique growth habit. The Western arborvitae ‘Smaragd’ grows in the shape of a cone. This makes it easy to distinguish from other conifers, such as a Western arborvitae ‘Brabant’ or Giant arborvitae ‘Gelderland’.
In addition, the “Smaragd” stays green even in winter. This allows you to enjoy your privacy all year round and keeps prying eyes from peering into your home.
