We ordered 1,500 yew seedlings at the end of February last year. It was a bit nerve-wracking after the snow and frost. They were delivered to us, and we planted them that same week. Except for 20 of them, all the yews are looking exceptionally healthy. So that’s great! We’re very satisfied with this purchase. We highly recommend buying from here!

I stopped by SVH for advice on hedge plants. Stan really takes the time to figure out which types of hedges are right for you and gives you great advice. In the end, we chose Prunus Elly. It was delivered quickly, and upon delivery, they explained step by step how to plant it. We’re very satisfied!

We’re very pleased with this nursery! We received a beautiful proprietary variety: the Laurier ‘Elly’. The plants were of good quality, nice and full, and healthy. You can tell right away that they’re grown with a great deal of expertise and care.

In addition, the service was friendly and professional. Everything was delivered neatly, and they kept their promises. We are very happy with the results in our garden and can definitely recommend this nursery to anyone looking for high-quality plants and expert advice.

Yew ‘Hilli’

Taxus media ‘Hilli’ is a beautiful variety! And virtually identical toTaxus media ‘Hicksii’. The main difference is that ‘Hilli’ is the male variety, which does not produce berries. The ‘Hicksii’ is the female variety. This plant does produce berries.

The difference between these plants andTaxus baccataisthat Taxusbaccatahasaless compact growth habit and will therefore form a dense hedge slightly sooner.

Taxusmedia ‘Hilli’ only needs to be pruned once a year. This is because the plant grows a maximum of 20 cm per year. The best time to prune your hedge is in the spring (March through May) or in the fall (September through November). An added benefit is that you won’t have much cleanup work to do, as this plant doesn’t produce much pruning waste.

The “Hilli” is a very hardy plant that can withstand rough treatment. In addition, this plant can be planted almost anywhere. It’s also remarkable that this plant can live to a very old age without any problems.

FAQ

Taxus media 'Hilli' is a popular, slow-growing yew variety known for its dense, green needles. This yew variety can grow up to 4 meters tall and is ideal for creating hedges and privacy screens. The 'Hilli' is also well-suited for formal gardens and responds well to pruning.

Taxus media 'Hilli' offers several advantages:

Dense hedge: Thanks to its compact growth habit and dense branches, this yew is perfect for creating a privacy hedge.

Low maintenance: This species requires little maintenance; an annual pruning is often sufficient.

Hardy: Taxus media 'Hilli' is highly resistant to cold temperatures, allowing it to remain green year-round.

The 'Hilli' yew requires minimal maintenance. Pruning once a year is generally sufficient. This helps maintain the desired shape and encourages dense growth. It is best to do this in the spring or after the last frost. Also, check regularly for pests such as fungi or insects.

Be sure to water your Taxus media 'Hilli' regularly, especially during the first few years after planting.

Taxus media 'Hilli' can be affected by pests such as spider mites, aphids, and yew beetles. Regular inspection and timely treatment with biological pesticides can help keep these pests under control.

To promote the growth of Taxus media 'Hilli,' you can use Stan Verwaaij Hedge Plants’ Organic Hedge Plant Fertilizer in the spring and summer. This provides the plant with the nutrients it needs for healthy growth. Also, be sure to water it sufficiently, especially during dry periods.

Yes, Taxus media 'Hilli' is very hardy and can withstand severe frost. This characteristic makes it an excellent choice for gardens in temperate climates, where it retains its green color year-round.

This species of yew grows best in well-drained, fertile soil with a neutral pH. Full sun or partial shade is ideal, but the plant can also survive in shady areas, albeit with slower growth.

Taxus media 'Hilli' is a slow-growing plant that grows up to 20 cm per year, depending on growing conditions. This makes it an excellent choice for people looking for a low hedge—for example, for the front yard.
