The Laurier ‘Elly’ is a special hedge plant to me. It was discovered at my parents’ nursery in Ottersum and is named after my mother.

This variety of laurel was discovered during a harsh winter. While other laurel cuttings froze to death, the “Elly” proved to be an extremely hardy variety under freezing conditions. To this day, the “Elly” laurel remains one of the hardiest varieties of laurel available.

In addition to being extremely hardy, professional nurseries have increasingly noticed in recent years that “Elly” easily resumes growth after periods of prolonged drought. This is another important advantage of this hedge plant.

As far as we’re concerned, a “Elly” laurel hedge is ideal! Not only can this plant handle a variety of weather conditions, but this variety also has a beautiful growth habit. “Elly” grows narrowly and compactly upward. This ensures that your laurel hedge won’t get too wide. .

The leaves of the “Elly” closely resemble those of the Laurier “Caucasica.” However, given the characteristics of the “Elly” mentioned above, you can actually consider this variety an improved version of the “Caucasica.”

At the nursery in Ottersum, we’re very proud of this plant. It’s no wonder it’s my favorite! Hopefully, you’ll enjoy the characteristics and appearance of the Laurier ‘Elly’ just as much as we do.
