Bay Laurel ‘Etna’
The Laurier ‘Etna’, known in Latin as Prunus lauroceracus ‘Etna’, is a truly special plant! This is because of the new leaves that grow on the ‘Etna’ after pruning. These leaves are a deep red. Over time, they will turn green. The combination of deep red and green leaves is absolutely stunning!
The ‘Etna’ is a bushy plant. This means you’ll quickly have a dense hedge after planting. In addition, the ‘Etna’ is extremely hardy, so you don’t have to worry about it during periods of frost. It’s no wonder, then, that the ‘Etna’ laurel is incredibly popular in Germany.
It’s best to plant theLaurier‘Etna’ in a spot with plenty of shade. This plant doesn’t like being in direct sunlight. It’s also not a good idea to plant the ‘Etna’ in very wet soil, as this can cause the roots to rot.
The ‘Etna’ is a moderate grower and grows about 20 to 40 cm per year. However, it is advisable to prune this plant twice a year, as it tends to become bushy. The best time to prune your laurel hedge is in the spring (March through May) and in the fall (September through November).
Laurier ‘Bonaparte’is also a variety with red shoots. The main difference is that ‘Etna’ grows more slowly and spreads more widely.
